Here is what I see when a character speaks while subtitles are enabled.

On a related note, the "Subtitles" button is not interactable; I used cg_drawSubtitles 1 to enable subtitles.

That's correct, since TDA was released before subtitles became a thing in RealRTCW.

Nowadays, TDA has a lot of outdated aspects, and this is one of those, sadly.

One of the reasons subtitles would be useful in TDA is that, to my ears and mind, the spoken words in the cutscenes and radio comms are often quite difficult to hear and/or understand. In my experience, the same problem exists in RTCW, which is why I use subtitles in RealRTCW.
